We have been living with on-going change and uncertainty through the ages. Recently, in addition to a global pandemic and social isolation, we have faced increasing racial tensions in our social systems across Canada and the rest of the world. These tensions have brought up difficult feelings amongst various groups of people, including fear, hatred, denial, grief, shame, ignorance, and insecurity – they have left our hearts wounded and shaky. There has been increased awareness of the dangers of racism, oppression, and marginalization of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) to our society. In this session participants will have an opportunity to hear about a lived experience and engage in mindfulness and compassion practices to turn towards the difficulty in order to support an open and compassionate dialogue to explore how we can transform racism and cultivate greater inclusion and belonging in our mindfulness education and practice spaces. The intention of this talk is to cultivate compassion for self and others, break the cycle of harm and silence, build bridges, foster community and connection, and begin a process of healing the wounds of trauma we all carry in our bodies. Resources will also be shared for further reading and exploration.
